Lendager Strategy is currently working on developing a new concept for a sustainable socio-economical café, that apart from being an extension to Taarnby Bibliotek, will act as a meeting point for locals and will activate the somewhat forlorn square in front of the library. The preliminary studies will result in a vision plan and an outline proposal for the café and the adjoining public space.
Around or near the square in front of the library several other public buildings are to be found, such as a ‘house of health’, gymnastics club, primary/secondary school, sports facilities, tennis club, badminton club and church. There is an obvious potential in opening up for better cooperation and communication between these many neighbours, tapping into the different facilities and competences across the institutions, and the physical manifestation of this is the new café and a rethought public space in front, a potential new heart for Taarnby.
The preliminary studies are supported by Realdanie because an in-depth analysis of the potentials in the connection between library and public space have relevance and value to many towns and cities across the country that experience similar problems with poorly activated public spaces next to libraries or other public institutions. At Lender we are looking forward to showing how the sharing economy can sharing society can thrive with the library as a driving force – and create a new hub for local activity in the area.
