CITY BRANDING
Urban Metabolism
Urban Metabolism is Lendager ARC’s urban development- and planning department.
We see cities as complex and metabolizing systems of interconnected inputs and outputs – and we understand that a healthy city requires a holistic approach to be truly successful. We work towards creating regenerative cities that resilient to the environmental, societal and economic challenges of the 21st century.
Our built environment is currently responsible for 40% of the world’s energy consumption and one third of global CO2-emissions. With a growing world population, a projected addition of 2.5 billion urban inhabitants by 2050, and the fact that some 60% of the built environment required to accommodate this growing population is yet to be built, we have quite a challenge on our hands.
Much like living organisms, cities consume energy, metabolize materials and produce waste, but contrary to a natural metabolism, our waste is generally not recirculated as a new resource. By reconfiguring our linear cities into networks of circular, self-sustaining, resilient systems, where all elements are mutually beneficial and nothing goes to waste, we have a unique opportunity to adapt to a future of resource limitation and climate change.
SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT
We assist in planning, designing and building urban developments that foster cooperation and sharing between businesses and residents. We create sustainable urban resource loops that allow cities to evolve into urban ecosystems with improved environmental footprint as well as increased financial performance.
TRANSFORMATION
Developing a thorough understanding of an urban district’s relationship to its surroundings is crucial to tapping into an area’s full potential. We facilitate the transition towards cleaner, safer and more engaging neighbourhoods by teaming up with local stakeholders and exploring potentials for urban transformation.
CITY BRANDING
A strong and coherent branding strategy is an effective tool for cities seeking investment, specialized human resources and tourism. As specialists in city branding we work with strengthening city identity through location-specific, holistic sustainability strategies.
RESOURCE MAPPING
A comprehensive assessment of the patterns and processes of urban systems is necessary for the development of sustainable cities. We use urban metabolism as a tool for auditing resource flows and evaluating how material, environmental and socio-economic components interact within these systems.
SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIES
Through integrated sustainable strategies for urban development we implement lasting improvements to the environmental, social, economic, climatic and demographic conditions of an urban area. We can identify the necessary measures to make your city a greener and more inviting place.
URBAN DESIGN
By exploring the complex interactions between people and places, we connect the dots between placemaking, mobility, environmental stewardship, social equity and urban economics. In this way, we assist developers in giving shape and identity to neighbourhoods, towns and cities.
COLLABORATIVE INNOVATION
Cities offer great opportunities for co-creation and experimentation with innovative ideas, services, technologies and business models. We engage with stakeholders such as residents, knowledge institutions, industry experts, policy makers and entrepreneurs to facilitate urban sustainability transitions.
TACTICAL URBANISM
The underlying fabric of cities is rapidly changing and requires a practical framework for envisioning and executing this transformation. We use tactical urbanism to solve local planning challenges and realize short-term, community-driven projects directed through a deliberate and phased approach.
LECTURES
Knowledge grows through sharing. We share our know-how and experience through lectures, workshops, seminars and presentations. Through these sessions, we seek to inspire citizens, architects, urban planners, policymakers, developers, professionals and academics to transition towards a more sustainable future.
