Economic Sustainability

What if we could build one of the most economic housing projects and make it one of the most sustainable at the same time? What if the project created more biodiversity than before and increased the bio factor by 30%? What if the project had 30% upcycled materials and build out of beautiful wood elements?

About

Lisbjerg is the first project where local plans define upcycling, with minimum 20% facade materiale. Lisbjerg made in Aarhus focuses on the human scale, design for social interaction, and integration of a fantastic view, which feels present everywhere in the project.

Locally harvested and upcycled wing tile is used as facade cladding of selected clusters. The site has a fantastic view over the bay and fields. The combined scenic and urban qualities are thought into the project from the beginning. Through the incorporation of nature as a recurring theme in the whole project, the experience of natural synergies and cycles thus becomes a great part of the residents’ daily life.

Economic sustainability is equally important. The architects and client wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to build sustainable even within social housing budgets. The project includes affordable housing for rent, for example to students, low-income families and seniors.
