Høje-Taastrup Town Hall
Denmark’s largest rehabilitation project of its kind
The rehabilitation of Høje-Taastrup Town all is the biggest building rehabilitation project of its kind in Denmark.
The old town hall in the Danish town of Høje-Taastrup could no longer serve as a modern town hall for citizens and employees. Initially, plans were made to demolish the building.
Instead, Lendager, IKANO Bolig and Thing & Brandt Landskab will transform the former town hall from 1980 into approximately 200 attractive and sustainability oriented housing units. An extra floor and roofscape will be added to parts of the 17,000 m2 building, while 130 new townhouses are created utilising the existing building’s courtyard structures – as well as a new grocery store of 1500 m2.
The new residential area builds on the qualities of the former town hall and its surroundings. The new district aims to promote a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle and inclusive communities, consisting of both owner-occupied and rental housing.
By reusing the existing building, a significantly lower climate impact and corresponding reduction in resource consumption can be achieved.
Given that the existing buildings and trees possess such high experiential quality and character, it makes more sense to preserve them rather than start anew. This has required cross-industry collaboration to advance the green agenda.
