A new district is emerging at Stejlepladsen, a development area in the former industrial harbor of Sydhavn that is leading the way in circular urban development.
As sustainability and architectural consultants, Lendager is responsible for DGNB certification at both the urban and building levels, the development of specialized recycled materials for the building facades, and the creation of buildings with a low CO2 footprint.
The facades are divided into modular panels that can be adapted to accommodate recycled materials in the specific sizes and types available. The building’s aesthetic is partially determined by the recycled materials that can be sourced. Through this approach, the houses become a distinct, unifying element within the area.

The project explores how various sustainable initiatives can contribute to its goal of reaching 5 kg CO2-eq/m²/year. This includes selecting sustainable construction methods and materials with a low climate footprint, optimizing design to minimize resource consumption, and developing and implementing recycled materials within the structure.
The collaboration involved mapping the contractor’s construction sites for surplus materials. This provided a unique starting point for a project where the contractor and architect had to cultivate a mutual understanding of the cycle of waste materials entering and leaving construction sites and production facilities, ultimately transforming them into a vital resource for the building.
